OUR STORY

ROMEX CANADA is the exclusive supplier of the German-engineered ROMEX hardscape solutions product line throughout Canada and provides not only the products, but also expert advice and planning, estimates, installer training, and world-class follow-up and customer service.

The company was formed when Tom Kirk moved from Scotland to Vancouver and sought work in his field of expertise as a project manager in landscape masonry construction. Through his work in the landscape construction field, Tom spotted an opportunity for a permeable and durable jointing solution and sought to use ‘ROMEX’– a product line he had previously used in Europe whilst working for his family’s masonry company. It soon became apparent that ROMEX was not available locally, and after much testing, analysis, and vetting, a new company was formed specifically to bring ROMEX to the region.

Built on 30 years of success from installs in 27 countries around the world, ROMEX CANADA is part of the global ROMEX team and is the proud supplier of the world’s most resilient permeable hardscape technology in Canada.

MEET THE TEAM

Tom Kirk is a highly-experienced masonry installer and project manager with over 15 years of experience working with ROMEX products.

Based in Northeast Scotland, his family’s masonry company, Kirk Natural Stone Developments, was approached by ROMEX as they expanded into the UK. Hence Tom first used ROMEX on his parents’ driveway – which today, after 15 years of -30oC winters, is just like the day it was done.

From 2004-2008, Tom earned a BSc in Construction Project Management from Heriot-Watt University.

In 2013, he moved to Canada, found work with Houston Landscapes, and was soon promoted to Residential Estimator and Project Manager.

Frustrated that ROMEX was not available, Tom collaborated with Jeremy and Graeme to bring the first ROMEX products to Canada. Tom remains the technical guru and go-to, hands-on expert for all things ROMEX.

Jeremy has always been an entrepreneur. At 25, he started a small web company that was acquired by PGI Events and Destinations, with Fortune 500 clients such as Coca Cola.

In 2004, he left to start two new companies: Wallop Creative, a boutique web design company, and Houston Landscapes. In 2009, he decided to focus on Houston. It was soon ranked as one of the fastest growing companies in Canada by Profit Magazine (2013), the same year he was named a Business in Vancouver “Top 40 Under 40”. Today, Houston remains one of the most well-recognized companies in the business.

Through an advisory role, ROMEX CANADA is a beneficiary of Jeremy’s expertise in business management and strategy, as well as the landscaping industry, in general.

Ashley has spent her 20+ years in business working in, on and around small and mid sized companies across North America. While earning her bachelor’s degree in math and biology from 2000-2004 she concurrently owned and operated an exterior painting business that she doubled in sized year over year. Following her graduation she was promoted to work at the College Pro head office in Toronto where she recruited, trained and coached new and existing Franchise Owners throughout the GTA.

From 2008-2009 she completed her MBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and transitioned into a Management Consulting role in Vancouver. There she helped numerous business owners implement improvements in their businesses across many functional areas including leadership, management, sales and marketing and operations. With the birth of her second child in 2016, she co-founded an organic pharmaceuticals company, Maple Organics, with a local B2C marketing and products expert. She grew that business until she sold her shares in 2019 and joined ROMEX. She brings her years of experience of helping companies grow and expand to ROMEX North America.

Kirsty Miller has an extensive background in people and materials logistics, financial diligence, and generally ‘keeping things on track’.

Educated at UBC, Kirsty spent over a decade in global event management, including the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Beijing and Vancouver.

Shifting her skills to the landscape construction industry, she has held Office Management roles for Houston Landscapes, Stone Event, and now ROMEX CANADA.

It doesn’t hurt that Kirsty also speaks fluent German, much to the delight of our German Head Office! You know what they say: Behind every great company, there is a great Office Manager, and we are fortunate to have Kirsty behind us all the way.

Richard joined ROMEX Canada in May 2019 and brings a background of Project Management and business support to the team.

In 2009, he accepted a soccer scholarship to attend Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management as a student-athlete.

Post degree, Richard returned to Scotland and worked in the Oil and Gas industry for deck machinery supplier ACE Winches as a Project Manager where he oversaw £5M worth of projects for multiple high profile clients. In 2016 he left Scotland again to embark upon two years of international travel and cultural experience. 

In May of 2019 Richard made the move across the pond to Canada where he joined forces with his older brother Tom and the rest of the ROMEX Canada team where he works as a Project Manager.

David began his career in sales after graduating from Mount Allison University, New Brunswick with a double major in History and Sociology. With 10 years of experience in building envelope sales, David has a strong knowledge of the construction sales process. Through David's experience, he has found the landscaping construction side to be his favorite part of construction with experience in green roofing and now hardscaping. David looks forward to helping solve clients’ major pain points in landscape construction by sharing the solutions that Romex products provide not only from an ROI and life cycle cost analysis perspective, but from an environmental perspective as well.

James Zolkavich is our Senior Business Development Representative for the Prairie provinces and has over 25 years of sales and business development experience in the landscape construction industry. James is based in Calgary where he has spent much of his professional career developing his vast network as well as bringing numerous high quality, innovative products such as ROMEX to the market via various dealership channels. James’s in depth knowledge of the industry and extensive contact list are a real asset to the ROMEX team and he is looking forward to putting ROMEX on the map in the Prairies by utilising the ROMEX product range on upcoming Residential & Commercial projects in the area.
